Is it weird to admit that I’m actually starting to miss school?  And that I’m looking forward to going back in a month? Yes? Okay, well, let’s move on then.  My last outfit post was actually written/photographed back at Chapman, so it has definitely been a while.  I guess I’ve just been lacking in the photographer/tripod area so I haven’t really had the time or the ability to.  But I finally made my friend take pictures of me, and photographer or not, I think the pictures my friend took turned out well!  I say photographer very loosely for she is basically the most un-artistic person I know, so I was surprised that they photos are actually useable.  Is that a word?  Well if not, it is now!  But anyways, the inspiration for this outfit came from my everyday style as well as a look I have been obsessing over.  And that is the combination of the color white with light washed denim shirts and shorts.  It creates an overall very light feel that looks great with tanned skin, so maybe that’s why I love it so much.

Pretty In Pink

My most recent shoot involved the color pink… and lots of it.  I had my friend Shaye model once again for this shoot.  You can see my last shoot with her here.  She previously mentioned this spot in the Silver Creek Country Club that would be perfect for a photoshoot and I had her send me photos of the location, and I immediately knew I wanted to do something colorful.  At first I was thinking something tropical, but that immediately changed when I started making the dress.  Yes, you heard right, I hand-made the skirt that she wore for the shoot.  I had a little help with my friend Jasmine from thatdarngeek.  I was able to bounce some ideas off of her and get her input and she helped me with sewing and all of that (although the dress consisted of hot glue more than stitches themselves).  Along with the dress, I also made her braided belts from a dark sea-foam, printed fabric I bought as well as her headband and dress accent.  Those were really fun and easy to make with my handy dandy hot glue.

Shaye and the Sea

It’s been way too long since my last photo shoot, and to say I’ve been deprived is an understatement.  I have been wanting to have a shoot with my friend Shaye for a long time now, but I just have never had the time to actually do it.  But a week before the actual shoot I contacted her and she was all for it.  I met up with the model at her house and from there we figured out the outfits for the actual shoot.  I wanted to go for a combination of prints that don’t necessarily “match” but still work very well together.  Inspiration came from Urban Outfitters and Free People.  I guess that when it comes to photoshoots, I’m very spontaneous about them.  The look usually comes together when I am either putting together articles of clothing or taking the actual shots, and in Shaye’s case, it came together when we got all of the outfits in line. I took a look at what we were working with and the first location that came to mind was Santa Cruz. I asked if Shaye was willing to go to the beach for the shoot, and sure enough, she was! Everything worked out perfectly.  It was scorching outside and it was the perfect day to drive to the beach.  We decided on Capitola, CA, and from there, we began the shoot.  Throughout the shoot I used my Nikon D5000.  I used two lenses: a 18-55mm Lens and my new 50mm Lens that has an f-stop as low as f/1.8 (it was a birthday gift from a friend).  So I was able to get some super butter-y photos with an awesome depth of field.  The only problem with that lens is that it requires manual focusing, so I got a lot of blurry photos.
